Over the past few weeks I have had this idea running through my mind. We had the opportunity to go worship with Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC and Pastor Steven Furtick shared a message on Favor. My initial thought was only hyper charismatic out there in lala land pastors talk about favor. God has completely changed my mind on this vital part of who God is. The idea that the God of the universe would decide to show his unearned favor to a human being is amazing! The unexpected blessing that could only come from God. There is no formula or magic word to evoke God to show favor to you. God choses you to do something for us so that we will point back to Him. Favor doesn’t always look the way we want it to look. Will you start looking at your life to see how God is showing favor to you. When some tells you man you have a nice _______… Don’t feel guilty point them to God. God blesses so that His people will give Him glory for all he has done.

Here is a really amazing video they showed to kick off our worship time at Elevation. It is very symbolic. So be thinking about God’s favor as you watch it.

We leave with our team to go to Haiti this Saturday morning. Our plan is to document every step of the way. We want you to see and hear the stories of our students sharing the love of Jesus. Her Name Will Be…

After much debate we have decided what to name our new daughter to be. It is so much easier naming a boy then a girl. Her name will be Adelyn Reese Kevetter!

We decided on Adelyn because it was unique and because Lindsey wants to call her Addy for short. Plus she thinks it would sound cute for a redheaded girl. Adelyn means Noble and we hope that she would be a Proverbs 31 woman one day. Reese means enthusiasm and I am sure she will live up to that for sure.

We are very excited to welcome our new little one on December 9th.

What’s in a name?

We are currently having some family time at the beach. It is raining and my wife and son are taking a nap. I don’t take naps. I’m weird I know.

On this trip we decided that we would come up with a name for our soon to be born daughter in December. It made me start to think about why people named their kids certain names. Some people name their kids after family members, some after famous people, some after Bible names, and even some after other kids because they don’t know how to be original. For my wife and I we like to do a combination of the above.

For our son, his name is Mavrick Timothy Kevetter. His first name came from Lindsey just naming off M names. She said Mavrick and I loved it. We looked it up and it means strong, leader, wild and nonconforming. I really liked all those attributes. The spelling well that is my choice. It was a game time decision and I liked how Mavrick looked over Maverick. His middle name came from a phrase that I like to say. “Every Paul needs a Timothy.” Referring to the relationship of two guys in the Bible. So it’s pretty cool his full name means “Wildly Honoring God.” I have a special Bible verse for Mav too. I hope this verses will help be his guide. It is Romans 12:1

There is a lot of pressure in naming your child. I want the name to be meaningful, memorable, and cool! I don’t want my daughter to get beat up or picked on. I’m not going to name her Bertha, Helga, or Hagred. I want her name to point people to Christ. I want her name to point her to Christ.

We think we have settled on a name. But I’m not going to share it today. We aren’t finished yet. I will post her name in the next few weeks.

I ran across this a couple of months ago and after reading it thought that Mark Driscoll had a lot of great insight into fathering children. I don’t agree completely with everything he says but there are so many topics he addresses that are right on the money. So, if you are a father spend some time and read this document. If you are a loving mother who wants to help your husband step up to the calling God has put in his life read this and pass it on.

What does unity mean to you?

What does it mean to be unified? How can someone be in unity with another person? Does your faith matter when talking about being in unity? How do maturity and unity run together? Do you think you can do it all and don’t need other people to help you get where you want to be? Do you have a gift? What are you really good at? What is God calling you to spend your life doing? Are you living a life according to the calling God has placed in your life? Should you always tell the truth or do you tell lies to keep the unity? What does it mean to love another person? What is tossing you back and forth in your life? What is causing you to doubt? Who is Christ to you?

These are some of the questions that are bouncing around in my head this morning as I look at Ephesians 4. I would love to hear from you. Pick a question and give me your thoughts.
